I think one of the things I enjoy about manga is the evolution. Over time the books evolve;the art changes little by little, the story changes, and the character themselves change. Negima started as a comedy harem book, now it's more of a combat manga. Reborn seemed like a comedy as well and now look at the current arc. It makes for a good read when the characters you were laughing at suddenly and punch a hole into a tank. At the same time the series try to stay funny in little ways. The art evolving is something you don't get to see in anime. Remember what the first chapters of Bleach looked like? Compared to the current look, the style is definitely better. Bit by bit you see how the character crystallized into their current state, hair changed slighty, the way the eyes are shaped, and even the way characters talk;so to speak [bad pun] All these make for something worth reading/watching

yah, very noticeable especially in the really long running manga. Personally I like reading series based on a oneshot, as it's very interesting to see not only the changes/improvements in character design, but also how the the mangaka has found an aspect or theme of the original to expand on, and if done correctly, leave themselves a lot of room for creative plot-lines and even some extra back story  Wink
